The Song of the Clocks.
[Page 158.]
Characters and objects represented. Grandfather's Clock, Swiss clock, Kitchen clock, French clock, and clock-maker.
A tall child stands on a high chair and slowly swings its right arm to and fro to represent Grandfather's Clock. The Swiss clock stands with back against the wall, and swirigs its right arm to and fro in front instead of at side, while holding a Kindergarten ball. The kitchen clock stands on a low chair, or stool, and swings its right arm like the pendulum of a clock. The French clock is a very small child who stands on a chair and swings its right arm the same as the other two clocks.
The clock-maker goes to the back of each clock and pretends to wind them up with a big key. As he finishes winding the last clock named in song, the game begins by Grandfather's Clock singing alone, loudly and clearly, the first verse. Each verse is sung in turn by the clocks named. When the last verse is finished, at a given signal from the teacher, or the captain in the ring, who counts the time previously agreed upon, all the clocks repeat their calls together until the number js counted.
Ring Song.
[Page 170.]
First Verse.
The children as they repeat the words of song, go through the motions of joining hands in ring, clapping hands, bowing to teacher, lifting hands to sky, turning and bowing to left, then to right, and shaking heads.
Second Verse.
They hold their hands above their heads, flap them like wings; snap their fingers; sing low; twirl their fingers; double their fists; pound one hand upon the other, and then swing their arms to and fro like the pendulum of a clock.
